SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE

No. 1 in active physiotherapy. And here is the proof.

Many people claim it; we have studied it, published it and presented it at international congresses. We measure, record and publish: that is why medical teams refer their patients to us.

What we have shown

Our studies show that the Pilar Domínguez Method® is an effective intervention for reducing pain and musculoskeletal disorders, with consistent results: effectiveness does not depend on the centre or on the professional delivering it, as long as they are accredited in the Method and the centre has the necessary equipment.

That is why doctors and surgeons refer patients to us and prescribe our therapeutic exercise.

The Pilar Domínguez Method, presented internationally in scoliosis research

Clinical progress reports

Real cases measured and documented by our team. Each report covers the initial assessment, the work carried out and the progress made.

Thoracolumbar scoliosis · 18 months

Thoracolumbar scoliosis · 18 months

Correction of a right-convex thoracolumbar scoliosis of 12° (Cobb angle), end vertebrae T8 and L4, after 18 months practising the Method.

A student's progress over one year

A student's progress over one year

Better alignment and recovery of the centre of gravity; valgus knees clearly improved; shoulder blades more symmetrical. Fingertip-to-floor distance went from 48 cm to 0 cm and the cervical curve on the plumb line from 4 cm to 2 cm.

Chondromalacia patellae

Chondromalacia patellae

Main diagnosis: right chondromalacia patellae; secondary: bilateral patellar tendinopathy. Increased quadriceps flexibility, allowing correct alignment of the kneecap and reducing pressure on the cartilage and tendon.

How we measure

We don't rely on impressions. At every visit we record pain intensity with the Visual Analogue Scale and physical and emotional wellbeing with the SF-12 questionnaire, two internationally validated tools. These records are the basis of the institute's studies.

Progress in pain measured with the Visual Analogue Scale in a sample case
Pain intensity (VAS). The spike in July corresponds to an acute episode: improvement is rarely a straight line, which is why we measure at every visit.
Progress in physical fitness and mood measured with the SF-12 questionnaire in a sample case
Physical fitness and mood (SF-12). The dotted line shows the reference population average.

How we work

Clinical records for all our patients, teamwork and shared data. That is how we make sure improvement lasts.

01

Clinical records for every patient

Everyone who comes to us has an open clinical record, with the initial assessment, goals and progress visit by visit.

02

Everyone looks at the same case

Rehabilitation physicians, physiotherapists and therapeutic exercise specialists share clinical records and criteria, and we coordinate with each patient's GP or specialist.

03

We measure and we share

We design health and follow-up questionnaires, measure progress and share the results with the patient and, where appropriate, with their doctor.

04

The patient takes part

When people see their own progress in data, they get involved: we have developed our own tracking and motivation systems that support adherence to treatment, and they work.

This methodology was designed and led by Dr Carme Carré, PhD in Clinical Research Methods, and today we continue to work with the rigour she left us. The scientific committee comprises Dr Ampar Cuxart, former Head of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Vall d'Hebron Hospital, and Dr Elena Carreras, former Head of Gynaecology and Obstetrics at the same hospital.
